One of the great advantages of Benidorm and the Costa Blanca is that the paddling season doesn't last two months: with more than 300 days of sunshine a year and mild winters, there are few weeks when getting on the water doesn't appeal. Still, every season has its own character. Here is the breakdown so you can pick your day well.
Spring (March - June): the hidden gem
For many paddlers, the best time of year. Days getting longer, pleasant temperatures without the fierce summer heat, a still-calm sea and beaches free of the July-August crowds. The water is fresh early on (16-18 °C) but perfectly paddleable, and by June it is warm enough to swim. Ideal for longer routes like Serra Gelada without roasting.
Summer (July - September): atmosphere and warm water
Peak season. Water at 24-26 °C, endless daylight and that holiday buzz that makes Benidorm unique. Two tips to make the most of it: set off early, because the midday sun is strong and the thermal wind usually arrives in the afternoon, and book your gear in advance because demand peaks now. Summer mornings, with the sea like a mirror, are pure gold for snorkelling.
Autumn (October - November): the locals' secret
The sea holds its summer warmth (still 20-23 °C in October) and the crowds have gone. Serene days, beautiful light and half-empty coves. It is the season to watch the forecast more closely, as the first easterly storms arrive in autumn: here is how to read the wind and sea before you go.
Winter (December - February): for those in the know
Benidorm has a microclimate: while half of Europe shivers, lunching in the sun at 18-20 °C is normal here. You can paddle on selected days, in a wetsuit or technical clothing and always close to shore. The water sits around 14-15 °C, so the margin for error is smaller: pick totally calm days and short routes like Cala de Finestrat.
So, when should you go?
- After atmosphere, swimming and snorkelling? July-September, first thing in the morning.
- Long routes without heat or crowds? April-June and October.
- The perfect golden-light photo? Autumn, no contest.
- A winter escape? Yes, but choose your day carefully.
Whatever the season, the plan is the same: pick your day, book your kayak or paddle board and we deliver the gear to the beach. Full day, no rush.
