North of Levante Beach, at the foot of the Serra Gelada, hide two little gems: Tío Ximo cove and Almadrava cove. These are rock-and-shingle coves with crystal-clear water, perfect for snorkelling, and they have one feature that makes them ideal for kayaking: road access is restricted in high season, so arriving by sea is the easiest —and prettiest— way to enjoy them.
A route for almost everyone
Unlike the crossing to the island, this is an easy, sheltered route. You hug the coast, never stray too far and always have land nearby. It is ideal for families, for beginners who want a bit more than the beach, and for anyone after a quiet day of swimming and snorkelling. From Levante Beach it is just a few minutes' paddle to the first cove.
What you'll find
- Tío Ximo cove: small, shingle, with a rocky bottom full of life. One of the best snorkelling spots in Benidorm.
- Almadrava cove: a little more open, also rocky, with very clean water.
- Cova del Barber (Barber's Cave): between the two coves opens this sea cave, reachable only from the water. Approach carefully and only in calm seas.
Perfect for snorkelling
Bring a mask and snorkel: the rocky bottom of these coves concentrates a lot of marine life. Anchor the kayak or leave the board on the shore and get in the water. On a good day, visibility is spectacular.
Tips
- Even though it's an easy route, wear a life jacket and check the day's forecast.
- Avoid getting close to the rocks if there is swell.
- Respect the coves: arrive and leave without a trace.
This route works perfectly on a paddle board if the sea is flat, or on a double kayak if you're with family. We bring the gear to the launch point we agree on. Want more adventure? Once you've mastered these coves, step up to the Benidorm Island route.
