A few kilometres south of Benidorm, Villajoyosa keeps a stretch of coast that surprises anyone who only knows its famous town of colourful houses. Among low cliffs hide unspoilt turquoise coves that barely have land access… and that by kayak or paddle board become a little paradise.
Why by kayak
Many of these coves are hard to reach on foot: you have to scramble down tricky paths, or there is simply no land access at all. That keeps them uncrowded even in the middle of August. With a kayak or board launching from Playa del Torres or from Villajoyosa's main beach, they are within your reach.
The coves
- Racó del Conill: one of the prettiest and best known, with very clean water, tucked between cliffs. Great for snorkelling.
- Cala Fonda / Bol Nou: quiet shingle-and-rock coves, ideal for anchoring and swimming away from the crowds.
- Torre del Xarco: this old watchtower (once used to warn of pirate attacks) presides over part of this coast as a landmark.
Level and logistics
This is an easy-to-medium route: coastal, with no big crossings, but with some slightly more exposed stretches depending on the wind. Perfect for taking your time over a full day, stopping to swim at every cove. Remember we also deliver and collect the gear in Villajoyosa, so you can start the route right here.
Tips
- Set off early to find calmer seas and empty coves.
- Bring food and water: you'll be out for several hours.
- Life jacket on and a dry bag for your phone.
